This hike will bring us to some of our favorite places in the beautiful river town of Beacon, NY. The Hudson Highlands State Park and Mount Beacon Park are two amazing places to visit with their rich cultural history and beautiful 360 degree views. The trail follows the old Dry Brook that runs down the hill from the 125 million gallon Beacon Reservoir and climbs a steep ravine to the base of the massive dam. We will walk across the top of the dam, then up to the top of South Mount Beacon and its bare, rocky summit, home only to a huge, newly restored fire lookout tower. On a clear day, you can see all the way down to the skyline of New York City! From the tower, we will traverse the ridge to North Mount Beacon for a chance to explore the ruins of an old casino, cog railway engine room and now defunct ski resort.

As usual we are planning on a delicious, nutritious trail snack and Lisa will certainly be outdoing herself again with baked goods and other yummy treats. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm, a backpack for some water and we will do the rest!
