Growing up I wanted to be a lot of things…being part of a guiding company was never on the list. The list did include many interesting careers such as joining the circus, professional wrestling, being the first woman Major League baseball player (and marrying Derek Jeter) and being a famous actress (and marrying Brad Pitt). Obviously those dreams might have been a little too lofty. One thing that I did aspire to do for a brief moment, was cooking and I used to pretend to host my own cooking show in my kitchen. No audience, just me, sometimes making scrambled eggs or something, or once in awhile I would try to combine ingredients to make something happen…usually ending in an inedible mess.
I remember from way back in those days, helping my mother in the kitchen. Making chocolate chip cookies was my favorite thing to bake and I was always the stirrer. I especially enjoyed stirring the eggs and breaking the yolks in the batter, but once we added the dry ingredients and it got annoying to stir I handed the spoon over. I still think the most perfect recipe for them is the one right on the back of the Nestle Toll House bag of chocolate chips. I use it all the time and people rave about them. And in this way I learned a lot of helpful tips and tricks for cooking.
There are so many great things about being a part of Hike With Mike but one thing that I really love is being able to share food with people. I’m not saying I’m in any way an accomplished chef but I do love to cook and bake. I find it soothing, a good way to de-stress, much like hiking, after a long day or week at work. I love finding new and interesting things to cook and seeing if I can make it my own. On every hike we go on as Hike With Mike I like to make some homemade items to bring along, usually some hummus and a baked good. I’m a little obsessed with finding new recipes and making things most people haven’t tried before. I think I have had pretty successful results. And everything left over is always taken care of by friends and co-workers.
I find food is a great way to entice people. If you want to help eat my food you should definitely come along with us and have lunch with Lisa….and Mike…and other awesome people who love to hike.
